Mustangs score late to top Adairsville


Kennesaw Mountain scored five runs over their final two innings to defeat the Adairsville Tigers in come-from-behind fashion Tuesday night at LakePoint in Emerson.


The Tigers scored a single run in the fourth, but the Mustangs got four in the fifth and added another run in the sixth for the 5-1 non-region win.


Kennesaw Mountain starting pitcher, Matt Cole, went the distance for the win. He scattered three Tigers’ hits in seven innings of work, struck out 10, and walked two.


Landon Howren and Lane Griffith singled for Adairsville. Hayden Morrow doubled.


The Tigers used four pitchers in the contest. Kyler Pelfrey (2 IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB) and Sam Seaman (2 IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB) both worked a pair of shutout innings. Noah O’Kelley (1 IP, 4ER, 5H, 2BB, 2K) was saddled with the pitching loss. Orry Carter (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 1K) also pitched for Adairsville.


Ivan Johnson (RBI) and Patrick Martin (HR, RBI) had two hits each to lead the Mustangs. Will Corey and Justin Phillips also drove in runs for Kennesaw Mountain.


Adairsville opens Region 6-AAA play at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Friday at 5:55pm.
