Woodland wins opener at Pepperell, 8-4
Cauy Williams and Grant Robinson drove in a pair of runs each as Woodland opened the 2016 baseball season with an 8-4 win at Pepperell.
Williams and Robinson both drove in runs with singles in the fifth inning and both added RBI doubles in the sixth.
The Wildcats trailed 4-1 going to the top of the fifth, but scored four in the fifth and three in the sixth for the come-from-behind win.
Pepperell scored two runs in the third and fourth innings to grab the early lead.
Both teams totaled ten hits in the contest.
Woodland’s Rodopho Romo picked up the pitching victory by working the final 3 and 1/3 innings in relief of Grayson Bagwell. Romo worked a scoreless stint, scattered three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Bagwell (3.2 IP, 7H, 4R, 2ER, 1BB, 6K) held the Dragons scoreless through his first two innings with no hits and his lone base on balls.
Along with the offensive production by Williams and Robinson of the Wildcats, Jacob Frye had a pair of hits. Garett Cornett, Mitchell Taylor, Hunter Reaid, and Brandon Allen added one hit each.
Zach Williams had three hits for Pepperell including an RBI double.
Woodland (1-0) plays Kennesaw Mountain Wednesday (Feb. 24) at LakePoint in Emerson.
