Gooden goes deep twice as Chargers pound Cleveland State CC
Daniel Gooden hit a pair of homeruns and the Chargers totaled 14 hits as Georgia Highlands defeated Cleveland State CC (TN) 12-2 Wednesday.
Nine of Highlands’ hits were for extra bases.
Cleveland State tied the game 2-2 heading to the bottom of the third and GHC took control with four runs in the third and six in the fifth.
Georgia Highlands took the lead in the third inning on a solo shot by Zach McCrum, then tacked on three more runs on RBI singles by Andrew Cooley and Seth Little and an RBI double by Brandon Bell.
The Chargers fifth inning outburst came on an RBI single by Bell, a two-run double by Tristan Roberts, an RBI double by McCrum, and a two-run homer by Gooden.
Casey Collins (5 IP, 2H, 1ER, 3BB, 6K) got the pitching victory for GHC. Nick Constan and Tanner Thomson each worked a scoreless inning for the Chargers.
Georgia Highlands (6-4) hosts a pair of games Saturday at LakePoint in Emerson. The Chargers play Lincoln Trail CC at 1pm and St. Louis CC at 3:30pm.
