Siniard, Vikings conclude season; collegiate local athlete updates for swimming, tennis, wrestling,


College athletes from the Cartersville and Bartow County area continue to make important contributions to their respective athletic programs across the Southeastern United States in swimming, tennis, track and field, wrestling, and basketball.

SWIMMING


MATTHEW SINIARD — Berry College (Sr., Cartersville HS) . . . In the Vikings final meet, Siniard swam the second leg for the first place 800 yard freestyle relay team Feb. 10-13 at the Southern Athletic Association conference championships in Birmingham. The Vikings finished second at the event, the best finish ever for the program. Siniard’s relay team was eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay and ninth in the 200-yard medley relay. He placed 10th in the 200-yard freestyle, 11th in the 100 yard freestyle and 16th in the 500-yard freestyle.

TRACK AND FIELD


MILES BEARDEN — Kansas State (Jr., Darlington School; Cartersville resident) . . . was 11th in the high jump (2.11m/6-11) at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Feb. 13. The Wildcats host the Steve Miller Open Feb. 19 before traveling to the Big 12 Championships Feb. 26-27 in Ames, Iowa.


ROGER HERRERA — Reinhardt University (Jr., Cartersville HS) . . . distance runner, ran 30th (17:15.52) in the 5000 meter run at the Samford Invitational Feb. 13. He also placed 42nd in the 3000 meter (9:55.54) at the same event. The Eagles run next at the Cougar Open hosted by Columbus State Feb. 27.


TROY HICKOM — Clayton State (Jr., Cartersville HS) . . . distance runner, finished third in the 1-mile run (4:35.97) Feb. 6 at the Sewanee Tigers Invitational in Tennessee. He was also on the Lakers’ first place distance medley team. Next is the UCS Invitational in Winston-Salem, NC Feb. 20.


ANNA HIGHTOWER — Georgia Tech (Fr., Cartersville HS) . . . pole vaulter, placed 13th (3.66m/12-0) at the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge Feb. 13. The Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships are Feb. 25-27 in Boston, MA.


SAMANTHA PATTERSON — Jacksonville State (Soph., Cartersville HS) . . . pole vaulter, placed 8th (3.50m/10-11.75) at the Samford Indoor Open Feb. 12-13 in Birmingham, AL. The Gamecocks travel to Nashville, TN Feb. 26-27 for the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships.


BLAKE PERRY — Jacksonville State (Soph., Cartersville HS) . . . finished 13th in the triple jump (11.46m/37-07.25) and finished 27th (9.34) in the 60m hurdles at the Samford Indoor Open Feb. 12-13 in Birmingham, AL. The Gamecocks travel to Nashville, TN Feb. 26-27 for the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships.




TENNIS


PEYTON GOLHOFFER — Ball State (Fr., Laurel Springs Acad.; Cartersville resident) . . . won her singles match and partnered with Audrey Berger to win in doubles in a 4-3 loss to Southern Illinois Feb. 13. Berger and Golhoffer also won their doubles match in a 5-2 home win over Western Kentucky Feb. 14. The Lady Cardinals are now 3-2 on the season and host Chicago State and Evansville Feb. 19 before traveling to Youngstown State Feb. 21.




BASKETBALL



SYDNEY BOYD — Brewton-Parker College (Fr., Woodland HS) . . . scored two points with a pair of rebounds and a steal in a Feb. 11 69-65 win over Middle Georgia State. The Lady Barons also lost Feb. 13 to Brenau, 83-80, but Boyd did not see action. Boyd has eight starts and 22 appearances in her freshman season and is averaging 4.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game with 15 steals. BPC hosts Coastal Georgia Feb. 20.


RYAN DAVIS — Chattahoochee Tech CC (Soph., Cartersville HS) . . . averaging 13.9 points and 5.7 rebounds with 5.1 assists per game. The Golden Eagles defeated Central Georgia Tech CC 71-68 Feb. 10 and lost to Albany Tech CC 68-61 Feb. 13. Chatt Tech is 20-7 overall and 7-6 in conference with games at Atlanta Metropolitan Feb. 15, home against Georgia Highlands Feb. 17 and home with Atlanta Metropolitan Feb. 21.


MARISSA DUBOSE — Gadsden State CC (Soph., Woodland HS) . . . scoring just under two points per game with 2.8 rebounds and just under one assist per game for the Cardinal in 21 games. GSCC (9-13 overall, 4-3 in the Alabama Community College Conference) defeated Lawson State Feb. 11, 72-60 and hosts Roane State Feb. 15 before traveling to Snead State Feb. 18.


ASHLEY HUSKINS — University of the Cumberlands (Fr., Cass HS) . . . has played in 20 of the Lady Patriots’ 22 games, starting twice. Huskins is scoring 4 points with 3.4 rebounds per game in 15.3 minutes per game. Huskins scored 10 points in a Feb. 11 win over St. Catharine (KY), 73-56. UC improved to 9-12 overall and picked up their first Mid-South Conference win of the season. She then played 18 minutes, scored six points, with a steal and two rebounds as the Patriots upset third-ranked Campbellsville University Feb. 13, 60-56. The Patriots travel to Berea College (KY) Feb. 16 and return to their home floor Feb. 20 against 19th-ranked University of Pikeville.


KAELYN IRBY — Gadsden State CC (Soph. Cartersville HS) . . . averaging 12 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. Irby recorded a double-double in a Feb. 11, 72-60 victory over Lawson State with 14 points and 10 assists. She also collected four rebounds in the win. GSCC (9-13 overall, 4-3 in the Alabama Community College Conference) hosts Roane State Feb. 15 before traveling to Snead State Feb. 18.


MAYA JONES — Gadsden State CC (Soph., Cartersville HS) . . . has appeared in 17 games as a reserve center, scoring 0.9 points with 0.6 rebounds per game. GSCC is 9-13 overall and 4-3 in the Alabama Community College Conference. The Cardinal defeated Lawson State Feb. 11. They host Roane State Feb. 15 and travel to Snead State Feb. 18.


MORGAN JONES — Gadsden State CC (Soph., Cartersville HS) . . . in 20 games for the Cardinal, she is averaging 5.1 points and 4.6 rebounds. Jones registered 8 rebounds, a pair of steals, and scored one point in a 72-60 win over Lawson State Feb. 11. The Cardinal are 9-13 overall and 4-3 in the ACCC. They host Roane State Feb. 15 and play at Snead State Feb. 18.


A.J. MOSBY — Chattahoochee Tech CC (Soph., Cartersville HS) . . . scoring 19.1 points per game with 5.1 rebounds and 4 assists per game. CTCC defeated Central Georgia Tech CC 71-68 Feb. 10 and lost to Albany Tech CC 68-61 Feb. 13. The Golden Eagles are 20-7 overall and 7-6 in conference with games at Atlanta Metropolitan Feb. 15, home against Georgia Highlands Feb. 17 and home with Atlanta Metropolitan Feb. 21.


ELIJAH ROBINSON — Emmanual College (Jr., Excel Christian Academy) . . . scoring 9.4 points per game with 5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game for the 16-5 Lions. Emmanuel is 8-2 in Conference Carolinas with upcoming games at North Greenville Feb. 15, at Limestone Feb. 17, and at home with Lees-McRae Feb. 20.


ADRIAN RODGERS — Southern University (Sr., Cartersville, GA; Centennial HS; Maine Central Prep) . . . a starter in all 25 games for the Jaguars, Rodgers is averaging 16.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting better than 76 percent from free throw line and 43 percent from the floor. A former Cass Colonel, Rodgers was named South West Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Week Feb. 10 after averaging 28 points in two road games at Grambling State and Jackson State on 56 percent shooting from the field. Southern has won 9 of 10 and is 17-8 overall. Southern is 9-3 in the SWAC, currently second behind Texas Southern. The Jags host Mississippi Valley State Feb. 15 and travel to Alabama State Feb. 20.



COREY TOBIN — Chattahoochee Tech CC (Soph., Cartersville HS) . . . contributing 8.0 points per game, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists through 25 games for the Golden Eagles. Chattahoochee Tech defeated Central Georgia Tech CC 71-68 Feb. 10 and lost to Albany Tech CC 68-61 Feb. 13. CTCC is 20-7 on the season and 7-6 in the GCAA with games at Atlanta Metropolitan Feb. 15, home against Georgia Highlands Feb. 17 and home with Atlanta Metropolitan Feb. 21.


RUDY WINTERS — Dalton State College (Soph., Excel Christian Academy) . . . scored 10 points as the Roadrunners beat Coastal Georgia College 67-60 Feb. 11 and improved to 16-10 overall and 8-7 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. Winters is averaging 13.5 points per game, 3 rebounds, and just under one assist in 14 appearances. DSC has home games with Faulkner University Feb. 18 and Auburn-Montgomery Feb. 20.




WRESTLING


EVAN COLE — Cumberland University (Soph., Cartersville HS) . . . lost his match in the 149-pound class by major decision Feb. 13 vs. St. Catharine (KY) University as the Phoenix edged the Patriots, 20-19. Next for CU is the NAIA East Qualifier in Marietta, GA hosted by Life University.


RASHAD WILLIAMS — Coker College (Soph., Cass HS) . . . lost a 6-2 decision in his match in the 133-pound class, but the Cobras defeated Anderson University, 33-9, Feb. 10. Coker travels to Indianapolis Feb. 26 for the NCAA Regionals after finishing 14-3 in dual matches during the season.
