Canes reach region final; Lady Tigers fall in semis
The Cartersville boys basketball team defeated Pickens Friday night 75-55 to reach the championship game of the Region 7-AAAA tournament Saturday night against Heritage-Catoosa. The region title game is set for a 7:30pm tip at Southeast Whitfield High School in Dalton.
Kobie Whitfield had 16 points and 12 rebounds in the semifinal victory for the top-seeded Canes. Jaylon Pugh and Trase Fezzia scored 10 each for Cartersville as they improved to 19-6. Third-seeded Heritage topped Northwest Whitfield 57-50 in the other semifinal. Pickens and Northwest Whitfield will play for third place Saturday at 4:30pm, also at Southeast Whitfield.
Cartersville is now guaranteed a state playoff home game in the first round.
RINGGOLD GIRLS 67, ADAIRSVILLE 32
The Lady Tigers fell to Region 6-AAA's top seeded team, Ringgold, Friday night in the region tournament semifinals, 67-32. Adairsville will play Calhoun Saturday for third place. The Lady Jackets lost the other semifinal Friday to Sonoraville, 64-59.
Ringgold and Sonoraville will play for the Region 6-AAA girls' championship Saturday night at 6pm. Game time for the Lady Tigers is 3pm at Ringgold High School.
