Excel teams fall in Region 6-A tourney games
WALKER GIRLS 48, EXCEL CHRISTIAN 27
Walker outscored Excel 15-6 in the second period and took a 25-12 lead to halftime on their way to a Region 6-A tournament victory that eliminated the Lady Eagles.
Rylie Boston led Excel with nine points. Whitney Harris scored eight; Xena Enos four; Anna Lane Hattaway three; Lindsey Mauldin two; and Kalli Beth Scheff, one point.
Excel finished its season with a 12-14 record.
MOUNT PISGAH BOYS 64, EXCEL CHRISTIAN 56 (Overtime)
The Excel Eagles led Mount Pisgah by 20 points midway through the third quarter Wednesday night in the Region 6-A tournament, but the Patriots’ furious comeback and full court defensive pressure sent the game to overtime where the Patriots won by eight and likely ended Excel’s season.
Excel was ranked No. 22 in the most recent edition of the Class A private school power ratings. The early region tournament loss likely leaves the Eagles on the outside looking in regarding the Class A state playoffs.
Quinn Richey led Mount Pisgah with 25 points. Brandon Younger scored 22 for the Patriots.
Darius Thrower finished the night with 12 points for Excel. Latrel Jones contributed 11; Caleb West 10; Dylan Drew eight; and Chris Hale seven for the Eagles.
Excel’s season likely concludes with a 12-14 mark. Mount Pisgah advances in the Region 6-A tournament to play second-seeded Whitefield Academy Thursday.
