Adairsville girls qualify for state tourney; Lady Canes eliminated


ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 46, NORTH MURRAY 41


The fifth-seeded Lady Tigers knocked off fourth-seeded North Murray Thursday night in the Region 6AAA tournament at Ringgold High School to advance to the region tournament semifinals and lock up a berth in the Class AAA state playoffs next week.


Adairsville (13-14 overall) advances to face top-seeded Ringgold in the semifinals Friday night at 7pm at Ringgold. For the game, the Lady Tigers drained nine 3-pointers and got 14 points from Emily Collum as they ended North Murray’s season with a 15-11 record.


Ringgold (20-3) was undefeated in region play during the regular season.


Win or lose, the Lady Tigers will play again on Saturday for state playoff seeding purposes. Semifinal winners from Friday's games will play for the region championship Saturday night at 6pm. The losers of the semifinal games will square off at 3pm for third place.




HERITAGE-CATOOSA GIRLS 61, CARTERSVILLE 39


The Lady Canes were eliminated at the Region 7-AAAA tournament Thursday night with a 61-39 loss to third-seeded Heritage-Catoosa.


Sydney Smith led the Lady Generals with 22 points.


Monica Motuba scored 11 points to lead the Lady Canes’ scoring. She was followed by Madison McKinney with nine; Kimora McClinic eight; Genesis Burks five; Kaia Bolton three; London Shaw two; and Amaya Davis with one point.


Heritage (20-5) advances to the region semifinals and secures a berth in the Class AAAA state playoffs. The Lady Canes’ season finishes with a 6-20 mark.
