Cass Middle School wins state title
The Cass Middle School wrestling team won the 24-team Georgia Middle School Championship Tournament Saturday, January 9 in Ellijay at Gilmer High School for the school’s first state title.
The Cass Middle School wrestling team had finished state runner-up the previous three years.
Cass Middle, the top seed, went 4-0 in the state tournament and defeated Tift County 61-30 in the finals.
The Colonels had wins over Adairsville (58-33), West Laurens (62-30), and Gilmer (58-24) to reach the championship match against Tift County.
Cass wrestlers Isaac Linley, Reese Sisson, Dalton Cornett, Seth McFarland, Reed Davis, and Aristro Perez each went undefeated at the state tournament.
The remainder of head coach Justin Martin’s squad includes Hayden Miller, Hunter Lee, Jacob Timm, Jamyus Hudson, Andrew Elizalde, Alex DePasquale, Tristan Munoz, Alex Glass, Adan Urizar, Jamie Reyes, Noah Hoffmier, Isai Romero, Emmanuel Hayes, Dominick Cosentino, Cameron Hill, and Kanler Brooks.
Cass was undefeated in dual matches this season and added the Bartow-Gordon Middle School Athletic Association championship team duals title Saturday (Jan. 16) to finish the season 19-0.
The Colonels had wins over South Central 86-12, Adairsville 81-18, and Woodland 69-25 to win the BGMSAA title.
