Eagles take homecoming victory


EXCEL CHRISTIAN BOYS 77, WALKER 68


Chris Hale scored 29 and Darius Thrower 24 as the Excel Christian Academy Eagles defeated visiting Walker 77-68 in ECA’s 2015-16 Homecoming game Saturday. The Eagles took a 16-7 lead after one quarter and extended their advantage to 35-21 at halftime. Although the visiting Wolverines edged Excel 47-42 over the final half, the Eagles held on for a nine point win.


Thrower and Hale combined for ten three-pointers for the Eagles.


Caleb West also reached double digits for Excel with 14 points. Max Rowland and Latrel Jones scored four points each. Joseph Cuomo added a basket.


Sam Bush, who scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half, led Walker. Robert Baker scored 20 for the Wolverines and Spencer Palladro added nine.


The win evened ECA’s season mark at 9-9. Walker slipped to 11-5.

Excel travels to Mount Paran Tuesday for games that begin at 6pm and host Temple next Saturday with the girls’ game tipping at 2:30pm.




WALKER GIRLS 40, EXCEL CHRISTIAN 27


The Excel Christian Lady Eagles were shutout 15-0 in the first quarter of their Homecoming matchup with Walker Saturday and could not recover in a 13 point loss.


Walker sophomore post Grace Mulroy scored 13 points, including eight in the first period to lead all scorers in the game. Saige Cornick-Turpin had 10 for the Lady Wolverines, followed by Alison Hebert, Jesse Baynes, and Winnie Litchfield with four points each.


Whitney Harris led Excel with 10 points. Brighton McCollum scored five, Rylie Boston four, Xena Enos four, Anna Lane Hattaway two, and Bailey Cox two for the Lady Eagles.


The loss evens Excel’s season record at 9-9. Walker improved to 5-10.


ECA plays at Mount Paran Tuesday and hosts Temple next Saturday.
