Mosby helps lead Chatt Tech to non-conference win


SMYRNA, Ga. – The Chattahoochee Tech men's basketball team defeated Southern Crescent on Thursday night at the Smyrna Community Center thanks to a 36-point performance from a local player, A.J. Mosby.


In the nonconference matchups, Mosby’s scoring helped the men to a 79-71 win as he logged all 40 minutes in the victory.


Mosby’s 36 points came on 12-of-18 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. The Cartersville High alum added six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Ryan Davis (Cartersville) added 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Jordan Oliver (Rabun County) chipped in 11 points off the bench with four rebounds and two steals. Arthur Bennett (McEachern) added 14 rebounds, six points and two blocks.

The Golden Eagles (17-1, No. 14 NJCAA Division I) trailed 32-31 at halftime and found themselves trailing by one point with 10 minutes to play, 50-49, before taking the lead for good and pulling away. Chattahoochee Tech stretched the lead to 14 points, 78-64, late in the game. The team shot 28-of-55 from the floor for a 50.9 percent clip.


The Golden Eagles look forward to a big matchup at No. 2 Georgia Highlands in Rome on Monday for a clash between the only two unbeaten teams in the GCAA Division I standings; Georgia Highlands holds a 17-1 overall record and 6-0 mark in GCAA play, while Chattahoochee Tech is 4-0 in conference. Tip-off against Georgia Highlands is at 7:30 p.m.
