Woodland, Cass open state tourney Thursday

The Woodland Wildcats’ and Cass Colonels’ wrestling teams open competition in the Class AAAAA GHSA State Dual Wrestling Championship Thursday at the Macon Centreplex.

Woodland won the Area 7AAAAA championship last week and Cass was runner-up in the same tournament to qualify for the state tournament.

The Wildcats — seeded second at the state championship — have been state runner up each of the last two years. Cass is the No. 5 seed in this year’s state tournament.

Camden County is the defending Class AAAAA champion and is the number one seed again this year. Other favorites, based on seeding, include No. 3 Allatoona and No. 4 Clarke Central.

Woodland will face Effingham County in the first round Thursday afternoon. Cass wrestles Dunwoody in the first round.
