Gollhofer Takedown champ; Woodland fourth, Cass seventh at 23-team event
Wildcats’ freshman, Kyle Gollhofer, won the 106-pound weight class, Woodland finished fourth as a team, and Cass placed seventh Monday and Tuesday (Dec. 28-29) at the Archer Tigers Takedown Tournament in Lawrenceville.
Commerce won the 23-team event with 195 points, followed by Father Ryan (TN) 184.5, Baylor (TN) 179, Woodland 161, Social Circle 154, Union Grove 110, and Cass 105.
Woodland had three other individuals to finish runner-up in their respective weight divisions.
Jahvar Lewis (113-pounds), Logan Sims (132), and Cody Cochran (152) each finished second for the Wildcats. Brett Shedd added a sixth place finish in the 195-pound class for Woodland.
For Cass, Devin Garrett placed third at 113-pounds and Hunter Quinn finished third at 145-pounds. Colonel teammates Tyler Pilcher (4th in the 132-pound division), Jordan Mitchell (5th, 138), and C.J. McKnight (6th,170) were the others Cass wrestlers to place.
Up next for both Woodland and Cass will be the Area Duals at North Atlanta High School January 8-9. The top two qualifying teams at the Area Duals will advance to the GHSA State Duals at Macon Coliseum January 14-16.
