Canes defeat Parkview to capture North Paulding tourney
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 60, PARKVIEW 50
Travon Davis had a double-double and Jaylon Pugh scored 16 as the Purple Hurricanes captured the 2015 NPHS Christmas Classic at North Paulding High School Tuesday night. Cartersville defeated Parkview 60-50 in the championship game.
Davis scored 12 points and pulled 11 rebounds with a block. Pugh added five assists, four rebounds, and a steal in his performance. Kobie Whitfield had eight rebounds and eight points for the Canes to go with a pair of assists, a steal and a blocked shot. Cade Archer contributed six points, five rebounds, and three assists; Kameron Whitfield had a steal and six points; Jkobe Orr scored six and pulled a pair of rebounds; Cortney Cooley scored five with two rebounds and an assist; T.J. Horton distributed a pair of assists; Trase Fezzia had three assists; and Isaac Gridley contributed with a rebound.
With the tournament championship win, the Canes improved to 6-1 for the season. Parkview fell to 6-6. Cartersville reached the tournament finals with victories over Paulding County in the opening round and Creekview in the semifinals.
Cartersville plays at Model Dec. 30 (4:30pm) and will host Heritage-Catoosa Jan. 5 (7:30pm).
LASSITER GIRLS 50, CARTERSVILLE 40
The Lady Canes suffered a 10-point loss to Lassiter Tuesday afternoon in the third place game of the NPHS Christmas Classic at North Paulding High School.
Lassiter led 20-6 after one quarter and 31-12 at halftime. The Lady Trojans pushed their advantage to 42-20 after three quarters of play.
Madison McKinney led Cartersville with 13 points. She also added seven rebounds.
Kimora McClinic also reached double figures in scoring with 10.
Cartersville slipped to a 3-6 record for the season. Lassiter improved to 5-8.
The Lady Canes travel to Model Dec. 30 (3pm) and will host Heritage-Catoosa Jan. 5 (6pm).
