Local prep hoops roundup: Canes cruise past Gilmer
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 72, GILMER 44
The Canes roared to a 29-7 first quarter lead and never looked back in earning the region victory. Jaylon Pugh led Cartersville with 16 points, Cortney Cooley added 15 and Cade Archer scored 9. Cartersville improved to 2-1 for the season. The Purple Hurricanes play Friday night at Pickens. With the loss, Gilmer is now 3-7.
GILMER GIRLS 54, CARTERSVILLE 25
Gilmer improved to 8-1 Tuesday night with a victory at Cartersville. The Lady Canes slipped to 2-3 on the season with the region loss. Hannah Jones led Gilmer with 14 points. Addie Smith and Monica Motuba led Cartersville with 8 points each. The Lady Canes play at Pickens Friday at 6pm and open play in the North Paulding Better Basketball Christmas Classic Saturday night.
NORTH SPRINGS BOYS 50, EXCEL 46
Caleb West led the Eagles with 17 points, but Excel lost at home Tuesday night to North Springs. Excel is now 4-5 on the season and opens play in the North Paulding Christmas Classic Saturday.
NORTH SPRINGS GIRLS 41, EXCEL 33
Lyric Johnson scored 19 to lead North Springs. Xena Enos led Excel with 10, followed by Whitney Harris 9, Kalli Beth Scheff and Rylie Boston 5 each. The Lady Eagles season mark falls to 5-4. North Springs evened its mark at 4-4. LAKEVIEW-FT. OGLETHORPE GIRLS 61, ADAIRSVILLE 50
A cold start by the Lady Tigers put them behind early and they never recovered in a region loss at LFO. The host Lady Warriors took a 15-2 lead after one period and led at each quarter stop. Jazzmyn Elston scored 34 points for LFO to lead all scorers. Sydni Eaves added 10 points with 9 rebounds. Victoria Davis’ 13 points led three Lady Tigers in double figures. Zay Harris scored 12 and Nakiyah Washington added 10 points. Emily Collum 6, Taylor Green5, and Josie Summerville 4 rounded out the Adairsville scoring. Adairsville (1-8) plays at Cass Friday at 6pm and at Fannin County Saturday night at 7pm.

LFO took a 15-2 lead after one quarter and held a 22-9 advantage at the half. The Warriors improved to 5-5 with the win. Adairsville fell to 1-6.
DARLINGTON GIRLS 51, WOODLAND 41
Gabby Bradley scored 20 points for the Lady Wildcats, but Woodland fell short against Darlington in the quarterfinals of the Rome News-Tribune Holiday Festival Tuesday night. Woodland (2-7) plays Pepperell Wednesday in a consolation game.
