Short-handed Canes grapplers runner-up at "Rumble at the Rock" Duals in Columbus


Cartersville wrestling finished in second place at the “Rumble at the Rock” Duals Saturday at Northside-Columbus High School.


The Canes won Pool A with victories over Clarkston, 60-12, Pacelli 42-21, Phenix City Central 42-36, and won by total pins over host Northside 43-42 to reach the finals.


In the finals against Pool B winner, Carver-Columbus, the Canes lost 62-24.


Cartersville finished second in the ten team event despite having to forfeit a few weight divisions due to team members playing in the state football championship game.

160 - Carlos Abarresco, 2-1 (1 pin)

220 - Jonathan DeLaCruz, 3-1 (1 pin)

220 - Blake Adams, 1-0 (1 pin)

285 - Ryan Hardesty, 4-1 (1 pin)


Caleb Raulerson and Carlos Abarresco both weighed in at 160 pounds but split time wrestling up at 170 pounds to avoid the team having to forfeit the 170-pound weight class.


Next on the schedule for the Canes is the Southside Wildcat Brawl at Whitewater High School in Fayetteville Sat. Dec. 19. The team will then travel to Gatlinburg, TN to participate in the Smokey Mountain Duals at Rocky Top Dec. 21-22.
