Canes complete perfect year with state title

Cartersville’s defense forced four turnovers, including a Tyler Reed interception at the goal line, and Trevor Lawrence connected with Miller Forristall to lead the Purple Hurricanes to a 10-0 Class AAAA state championship game win over three-time defending champ Buford at the Georgia Dome Saturday (Dec. 12).

Jonathan Cruz connected on a 47-yard field goal in the second quarter that gave Cartersville a 3-0 lead.

The Canes' touchdown pass came just before the intermission after Tiamon Pennymon recovered a fumble at the Buford 10 yard line.

Cartersville finished with a perfect 15-0 record and won the Hurricanes' third football state title. Buford finished the year 13-2.
