Woodland wins Walton Duals
The Woodland Wildcats' wrestling team went 4-0 on the day to capture the Walton Duals Saturday at Walton High School in Marietta.
Woodland defeated Mill Creek 68-12 in the first round and took down host Walton 57-19 in the second round to set up a thrilling third round match against Oak Mountain of Birmingham, AL.
The Wildcats trailed Oak Mountain 30-5 before rallying for a 36-33 victory. The win was secured when junior Dawson Woods pinned his opponent with only 13 seconds remaining. The come-from-behind win also sent Woodland to the championship round of the duals tournament.
In the finals, the Wildcats beat McCallie School of Chattanooga, TN 43-33 to improve to 14-1 on the season.
Gavin Nix, Kyle Gollhofer, Jahvar Lewis, Cody Cochran, and Woods were all undefeated in their four matches at the Walton Duals.
Woodland hosts Carrollton in their annual Senior Night event Wednesday (Dec. 9, 6pm) and will travel to the Cleveland (TN) Duals (Dec. 12, 9pm) and the McCallie Invitational in Chattanooga Dec. 18 and 19.
