Canes and Tigers to host state quarterfinal games
The top-ranked Cartersville Purple Hurricanes and the ninth-ranked Adairsville Tigers captured second round playoff victories last Friday night in their respective classes. As a result, both Cartersville and Adairsville will host quarterfinal games this Friday (Nov. 27). Champions of Region 7-AAAA, Cartersville (12-0) is a No. 1 seed, but had to win a coin toss Friday night after their 28-7 second round win over Liberty County to secure the right to host this week. The Canes opponent, Jonesboro, is also a region champion and a No. 1 seed in Class AAAA. The Cardinals won Region 4-AAAA and have an 11-1 record.
Cartersville has playoff wins over Columbia (42-7) and Liberty County (28-7) in the first two rounds. Jonesboro defeated Thomas County Central (17-14) and Carrollton (14-10). Adairsville entered the 2015 Class AAA playoffs as a No. 2 seed following their runner-up season in Region 6-AAA. The Tigers (11-1) get to host their quarterfinal game because their opponent, Westminster, is a No. 3 seed from Region 4-AAA.
Adairsville defeated Franklin County in the opening round of the state playoffs 35-7 and won at Jackson last Friday, 34-16.
