BCRD 12U girls soccer team advances to GRPA state tourney
The BCRD U12 girls soccer all stars earned a berth in the state soccer tournament by placing second in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) District 5 Tournament this past weekend in Blue Ridge.
Bartow defeated Fannin County 4-2 in overtime to clinch a spot in the finals.
Bartow fell behind Fannin 2-0 early, but managed to tie the score on a pair of Giorgia Conduff goals. Conduff scored just before the half and again early in the second half. Neither team scored in the first period of overtime, but Conduff broke through and scored early in the second overtime period to give Bartow a 3-2 lead. Conduff iced the game with another goal off a breakaway to close out the scoring.
In the district final, Calhoun jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back defeating Bartow 3-0 to earn the District 5 title. Both Calhoun and Bartow will compete in the GRPA State Tournament December 4-5 in Jefferson. Bartow will play at 6pm on Friday December 4 against host Jefferson.
