Bartow 10U and 12U youth football all stars get GRPA District 5 wins
The 10U and 12U youth football all star teams for the Bartow County Recreation Department picked up preliminary round victories Saturday as the 2015 Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) District 5 championships got under way.
10U results at Hamilton Crossing Park BARTOW 30 DALTON 10
Caleb Cooley and Devin Henderson each scored twice to lead the Bartow County 10U all stars to a preliminary round victory. Cooley had long scoring runs of 50 and 45 yards for touchdowns. Henderson added scoring runs from 30 and 10 yards. Martavis Cochran made three 2-point conversion kicks for Bartow. Dalton scored on a 3 yard run by Tyson Green Wade, a 2-point conversion kick by Zeke Ortiz, and a safety.
10U results at Dellinger Park CALHOUN 32 CARTERSVILLE 6
Cameran Curtis scored a pair of touchdowns on runs of 70 and 63 yards to lead Calhoun to victory over Cartersville in a preliminary round game. Demary Winston scored on a 10 yard run and extra point. Kaden Williams scored on a 15 yarder, and Zevyon Ferguson added a 9 yard touchdown run for Calhoun. Braylon Inman scored Cartersville's touchdown on a 26 yard gallop.
In other GRPA District 5 action Saturday in the 10U division, Cedartown shutout Murray County 58-0. The preliminary round games established single-elimination bracket pairings for games that begin Tuesday. Bartow will host Cartersville Tuesday at Hamilton Crossing Park with the winner advancing to the district semifinals Thursday against Cedartown. In the other half of the 10U bracket, Calhoun plays Dalton and Gordon County meets Murray County in Tuesday's first round. The District 5 championship games will be Saturday, November 21 at Calhoun High School.
12U results at Hamilton Crossing Park BARTOW 12 CEDARTOWN 6
Emmanuel Hayes broke free for a 26 yard touchdown run and Thomas Knight added a 10 yard burst for a score as the Bartow County 12U all stars defeated visiting Cedartown Saturday at Hamilton Crossing Park, 12-6. The preliminary round victory placed Bartow against last Thursday's preliminary round loser, Murray County, in the single-elimination bracket that begins Tuesday. In other GRPA District 5 action in the 12U division, Calhoun shutout Murray County 11-0 last Thursday, while Gordon County shutout Dalton 28-0 and Calhoun edged Rockmart 22-21 on Saturday.
The single-elimination playoffs for the 12U age group begin Tuesday with Bartow hosting Murray County at Hamilton Crossing Park. Rockmart will travel to Gordon County in the same half of the bracket. The winners of those two games play Thursday in the District 5 semifinals. Cedartown plays Dalton in a first round game Tuesday on the other side of the 12U bracket with the winner to meet Calhoun on Thursday.
Cartersville did not participate in the 12U age division. The GRPA 12U District 5 championship game will be Saturday, Nov. 21 at Calhoun High School.

Clayton Goad scored four touchdowns to lead Calhoun to victory. Travion Millsap and Peyton Harris added extra point runs for Calhoun. Ja'Caiden Leonard scored the Cartersville touchdown on a 44 yard scamper.
8U results at Hamilton Crossing Park DALTON 7 BARTOW 6
Talan Nix connected with Cameron Cochran for a 15 yard touchdown pass for Bartow's scoring play. Dalton scored on a 2 yard run by Duncan Carpenter and a Thailan Christopher PAT conversion run.
In other 8U preliminary round action Saturday, Cedartown and Rockmart both won by shutout scores. Cedartown defeated Murray County 31-0 and Rockmart topped Gordon County, 40-0. The GRPA 8U District 5 single elimination playoffs begin Tuesday with Bartow traveling to Calhoun and Cartersville facing Dalton (site, TBA). The other two first round games are Cedartown against Gordon County and Rockmart plays Murray County. The semifinals are scheduled for Thursday and the 8U championship game will be Saturday, Nov. 21 at Calhoun High School.
