Terrell blocks kick with pair of tackles; highlights of local collegiate football players' perfo


Updates on local collegiate athletes currently participating in college football.

Here are the updates on games of Saturday, October 31:


TWAN TERRELL — Cornell University (Sr., Woodland HS) … had two tackles and blocked a punt in a 47-21 loss at Princeton. Terrell now has 11 tackles on the season from his safety position and on special teams. The Big Red play at Ivy League rival Dartmouth Friday night on NBC Sports Network national TV.


TARRIS BATISTE — Georgia State University (Sr., Cass HS) … a starter at safety for the Panthers, Batiste made 9 tackles Saturday in a 48-34 loss to Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark. He now has 63 tackles through seven games and is second on the team in that category. He has 3.5 tackles for loss, a quarterback hit, a forced fumble, four pass break-ups, and an interception for the season. Georgia State hosts UL Lafayette Saturday at the Georgia Dome.


HAYES LINN — Air Force Academy (Jr. Cartersville HS) … had a pair of tackles and broku up a pass as the Falcons defeated Hawaii 58-7 in Honolulu. Air Force improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the Mountain West Conference. The Falcons host Army Saturday.


AUSTIN HARRELL — The Citadel (R-Jr., Adairsville HS) … defensive lineman continued to see action for the Bulldogs as they defeated Mercer 21-19 at home. The Citadel hosts Virginia Military Saturday for their homecoming game.


JUSTIN FLOYD — Furman University (R-Sr., Cartersville HS) … started at left guard for an offense that rolled up 426 yards of total offense in a 20-17 victory at Samford. The Paladins rushed for 252 yards as they evened their season mark at 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the Southern Conference. Furman plays Saturday at Western Carolina.


T.L. FORD — UNC-Charlotte (Soph., Cartersville HS) … he was targeted three times and caught two passes for a total of 23 yards in a 34-10 home loss to Marshall. The 49ers fell to 2-6 overall and 0-5 in Conference USA. Charlotte plays at Florida International University in Miami on Saturday.


CHAZ ROKINS — Maryville College (Soph., Cass HS) … had only one carry for 5 yards as the Scots defeated LaGrange College 38-31. He now has 261 yards on 61 rushes for the season and has played in seven of eight games scoring twice. Maryville is now 7-1 and plays at Huntingdon Saturday.


DA’KELIN WELLS — Maryville College (Soph., Cass HS) … started at cornerback and had one tackle in the Scots 38-31 victory over LaGrange College. He now has 18 tackles on the season with a pair of pass break ups and one interception. Maryville plays at USA South rival Huntingdon on Saturday.


QUADRE ALLEN — Tusculum College (R-Fr., Woodland HS) … saw action in three quarters of a 31-24 home loss to Mars Hill. He has four total tackles on the season. The Pioneers (4-5, 2-3) host Southern Athletic Conference rival Catawba on Saturday.


BRANDON THOMPSON — Tusculum College (R-Jr., Woodland HS) … saw action in three periods of a 31-24 loss to Mars Hill. Thompson has a pair of tackles on the season.


DeANDRE APPLIN — Georgia Military College (Fr., Adairsville HS) … now has 17 tackles on the season and has returned a pair of fumble recoveries for scores. GMC won at fellow independent, ASA Miami, 26-13. They play their regular season finale’ Sunday, Nov. 8 in Huntington, W.Va. vs. Lackawanna. Georgia Military is 6-3 overall as a JUCO independent.
