Curtis sets Reinhardt record with 5 TDs to highlight local collegiate football players' performa

Here are the updates on games of Saturday, October 24:



HAYES LINN — Air Force Academy — (Jr., Cartersville HS) .. had a pair of tackles in the Falcons 42-14 defeat of Fresno State. One tackle was from his safety position. The other was on punt coverage. Air Force is now 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the Mountain West Conference. In seven games, Linn has recorded 10 tackles and 1 pass break up at free safety. He has started three times.


NIAGEL CURTIS — Reinhardt University (Sr., Adairsville, GA, Gordon Central HS). . . team’s leading rusher through 8 games. The Eagles are ranked #8 in NAIA (8-0) and defeated top-ranked Lindsey Wilson (6-1) (KY) Saturday. Curtis rushed for a program-record five touchdowns and a game-high 129 yards in Saturday’s 42-24 Mid-South Conference West Division victory. Curtis now has 704 yards on 119 carries through eight games. He has scored 17 touchdowns on 5.9 yards per carry. He has a long rush of 72 yards and is averaging better than 87 yards per game. He has also caught 3 passes for 40 yards. Reinhardt has a bye week, then travels to Campbellsville (KY) November 7.


T.L. FORD II — UNC-Charlotte (Soph., Cartersville HS) … started at wide receiver and had 3 catches for 30 yards in a 44-10 loss to Southern Miss. His longest reception was 17 yards. He was targeted 6 times and made a tackle after an interception. The 49ers are now 2-5 and host Marshall Sat. Oct. 31.


TWAN TERRELL — Cornell University (Sr., Woodland HS) … safety saw time in the Big Red’s 44-24 loss to Brown University Saturday in Ivy League action. Cornell plays at Princeton next Saturday, Oct. 31.


ISAIAH ROSS — Point University (So., Woodland HS) .. the linebacker had 6 tackles in the Skyhawks’ 66-34 win over Southeastern (FL). Point is now 7-2 on the season and 4-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Skyhawks next host Ave Maria Univeristy November 7.


DA’KELIN WELLS — Maryville College (So., Cass HS) .. started at corner and had a tackle in the Scots 31-26 victory at Averett. A regular starter, Wells is averaging just under 3 tackles per game in conference play. He also has an interception this season. The Scots host LaGrange College Saturday, Oct. 31.


CHAZ ROKINS — Maryville College (So., Cass HS) … 6 carries for 8 yards as Maryville improved to 6-1 with a 31-26 victory at Averett. Rokins is now up to 256 yards for the season on 60 carries.


MALIK WILKINS — Maryville College (So., Cartersville HS) … received playing time in the Scots 31-26 win at Averett. Maryville is now 6-1 and play host LaGrange College next Saturday.


AUSTIN HARRELL — The Citadel (R-Jr., Adairsville HS) … saw playing time in the Bulldogs’ 38-17 Southern Conference win at Furman. The defensive lineman has nine tackles on the season and The Citadel is now 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The Citadel will host Mercer Sat. Oct. 31.


JUSTIN FLOYD — Furman University (R-Sr., Cartersville HS) … saw action on the offensive line for the Paladins who lost to The Citadel 38-17. Furman fell to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Southern Conference. The Paladins’ next game is at Samford October 31 in Birmingham.


QUADRE ALLEN — Tusculum College (R-Fr., Woodland HS) the defensive back saw playing time in the PIoneers 45-11 defeat of Limestone.


BRANDON THOMPSON — Tusculum College (R-Jr., Woodland HS) .. defensive back recorded a solo tackle in the Pioneers’ 45-11 win over Limestone. Tusculum will host Mars Hill Saturday, Oct. 31.


DeANDRE APPLIN — Georgia Military College (Adairsville HS) … had 2 tackles and an interception Saturday in a 57-28 win over Arkansas Baptist. has 15 tackles, 3 fumble recoveries, an interception, and leads the nation in the NJCAA in fumbles returned for touchdown with 2. Both scores came against Nassau Oct. 3 in a 42-21 victory. GMC has a 6-3 record and plays at ASA Miami Sat. Oct. 31.


MARK QUATTLEBAUM — UNC-Charlotte (R-Fr., Cartersville HS) .. saw special teams action vs. Southern Miss in a 44-10 loss. The 49ers host Marshall Sat. Oct. 31.
