Canes remain No. 1 in AAAA; Tigers stay No. 9 in AAA


The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes remain the top team in Class AAAA and the Adairsville Tigers stayed No. 9 in Class AAA in the latest rankings released by the AJC and Score Atlanta.


Both local ranked teams are on the road this week for region games. Cartersville visits the Southeast Whitfield Raiders in Dalton and Adairsville travels to Chatsworth to take on the North Murray Mountaineers.

Sophomore quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, was 17-of-25 passing for 362 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Canes past Northwest Whitfield 58-13. Cartersville had 519 yards in total offense. Alabama commit Morris Forristall had five catches for 133 yards and 2 TDs. Tony Dean had five catches for 94 yards and a pair of TDs. Cartersville plays Friday at SE Whitfield (4-4).

The Tigers scored on six straight possessions to start the game and added a botched punt attempt into another touchdown when LB Dallas Cannon scooped and scored from 10 yards out. Adairsville cruised to a 48-13 win over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. RB Sidnee Johnson, QB Roger Redd, and SL Torrey Hale all scored two touchdowns each.
