Lady Canes volleyball team advances to state playoffs

The Cartersville Lady Canes volleyball team won twice Saturday at Northwest Whitfield to advance to the Class AAAA state tournament next Wednesday.

After falling to the host Lady Bruins in the second round to open the day, Cartersville won their next two matches to reach the region semifinals.

Northwest won 25-14 and 25-15, but the Lady Canes bounced back to defeat Lafayette 25-11, 25-17 and Ridgeland in a hard fought three set match, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22. In the region semifinals, the Lady Canes fell to Heritage-Catoosa 25-14 and 25-18. Cartersville will be the No. 3 seed from Region 7-AAAA when the state tournament begins Wednesday. Site, time, and opponent to be determined.
