Updates on local collegiate athletes currently participating in volleyball and soccer.

VOLLEYBALL

Western Carolina — Katie O’Connor — MB, Sophomore (Cartersville HS) … had six kills, 12 total attacks, and 1 block in a 3-0 loss at Chattanooga…. 11 kills, 19 total attacks, 3 digs, and 3 blocks in a 3-2 win over Wofford….. 8 kills, 18 total attacks, and 1 dig in a 3-0 loss to High Point. The Catamounts are now 7-11 overall and 1-1 in the Southern Conference. WCU plays Furman at home Wed Sep 30 and at UNC-Greensboro Sat Oct 3.

Point University — Karlee Winecoff — OH/MH, Junior (Cass HS) … recorded 9 kills, 21 total attacks, 10 digs, and 4 blocks in a home 3-2 victory over Montreat (NC). . . 2 kills, 7 attacks, 1 block in a 3-0 loss at St. Andrews (NC)….. 2 kills, 13 attacks, and 3 digs in a 3-0 loss at Columbia College (SC). The Skyhawks are 3-7 overall and 2-6 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Point hosts Truett-McConnell Tuesday Sep 29 and hosts Bryan College Fri Oct 2

Shorter University — Sydney Sumners — DS, Freshman (Adairsville HS) Saw action in one set Sept. 5 vs. Charleston College. Lady Hawks are now 5-4 overall, 3-3 in the Gulf South Conference. Shorter plays at West Alabama Wed Sep 30 and at West Georgia Fri Oct 2.

SOCCER Troy University — Mallory Hedden — Midfielder, Sophomore (Cass HS) Played 21 minutes in the Trojans’ 2-1 win over Belmont. Troy had a home loss to South Alabama Sep 25. Troy travels to Louisiana-Monroe Fri Oct 2 and to Louisiana-Lafayette Sun Oct 4. The Lady Trojans are 7-3 overall and 0-1 in the SunBelt Conference.

Agnes Scott — Stephanie Hicks — Forward, Senior (Woodland HS) Has 4 goals. 11 of 15 shots taken this season have been on goal. Scotties lost 1-0 at Middle Georgia and 3-0 at Birmingham Southern last week. Agnes Scott plays at Wesleyan Oct 3 and hosts Salem College Oct 10.

Charleston Southern — Emily Moore — Defender, Junior (Woodland HS) Has played in 3 of 8 games, most recently at Liberty…. Buccaneers are 2-4-2 on the year and play Radford and Presbyterian at home this week on Wednesday and Saturday.

Duquesne — Cody West — Defender, R-Sophomore (Cass HS) Played 90 minutes in a 1-0 victory over Colgate. Played 92 minutes in a 2-1 2OT loss to Robert Morris. The Dukes play at Saint Francis (PA) Wed Sep 30 and at home against Dayton Sat Oct 3.
