Updates on local collegiate athletes currently participating in volleyball and soccer.

VOLLEYBALL

Western Carolina — Katie O’Connor — MB, Sophomore (Cartersville HS) Won 1 of 4 matches the past week. A victory over Idaho. Losses to Appalachian State, Tennessee Tech, and Towson…. had 4 kills vs. ASU, 5 kills, 1 dig, 2 blocks vs. Idaho; 10 kills, 1 dig, 4 blocks vs. Tennessee Tech; and 4 kills, 3 digs, and 2 blocks against Towson. The Catamounts are 6-9 on the season and host High Point and Wofford this week. They also have a road match at Chattanooga.

Shorter University — Sydney Sumners — DS, Freshman (Adairsville HS) Saw action in one set Sept. 5 vs. Charleston College.

Point University — Karlee Winecoff — OH/MH, Junior (Cass HS) Recorded seven kills and a service ace Sept. 12 vs. Milligan, TN…. had six kills and a service ace against Bryan College Sept. 8. The Skyhawks are 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

SOCCER Troy University — Mallory Hedden — Midfielder, Sophomore (Cass HS) Played 21 minutes in the Trojans’ 2-1 win over Belmont. Troy had road wins over the past week at Tennessee Tech and Belmont to improve their season mark to 7-2. Next: Home vs. South Alabama Sept. 25.

Agnes Scott — Stephanie Hicks — Forward, Senior (Woodland HS) Has 4 goals. 10 of 14 shots taken this season have been on goal. Scotties lost to Sewanee Sept. 19, 5-1. Next: at Birmingham Southern Sept. 23 and at Middle Georgia Sept. 26.

Charleston Southern — Emily Moore — Defender, Junior (Woodland HS) Has played in 2 of 7 games. Buccaneers are 2-2-2 on the year and play at Campbell Sept. 23 and at Liberty Sept. 26.

Duquesne — Cody West — Defender, R-Sophomore (Cass HS) Did not play in a scoreless draw with Cornell Sept. 18. Played all 90 minutes in a 1-0 victory over Colgate.
