Hurricanes are new No. 1
Cartersville is the new No. 1 team in Class AAAA according to the latest poll rankings released by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Canes avenged their only regular season loss of 2014 last Friday with a 34-31 home opening victory over Class 6-A North Cobb.
Buford (2-1), the previous No. 1, had its 42-game winning streak snapped at Class 6-A McEachern 37-14. McEachern (2-0) is the No. 2 team in the state’s highest classification.
The No. 1 ranking is the first for Cartersville (2-0) since 2005.
Buford and Cartersville appear headed on a collision course again in 2015. The two met in the state semi-finals last season with Buford winning. If both teams win their respective regions, they would not meet in 2015 until the finals.
