Canes cheerleaders Wood, Castillo selected GCCA all-state

Two Cartersville High School cheerleaders, Cameryn Wood and Sydney Castillo, were recently selected all-state cheerleaders at the Georgia Cheerleading Coaches' Association competition held August 8 at Columbus State University.

The top 40 cheerleaders across the state were chosen from almost 150 nominations of cheerleader coaches.

Cartersville head cheer coach Kelly Hopkins nominated the two Hurricanes.

The 40 finalists presented a two-minute cheer skills routine and were interviewed. The top 16 were named all-state cheerleaders for 2015-16.

The all-state cheerleading squad will be presented at the conclusion of the GHSA Cheerleading State Championships in Columbus on Nov. 14. At that time, the Georgia Cheerleader of the Year scholarship winner, the top scorer in the all-state competition, will be announced, and all scholarships will be presented.
