Excel softball falls to Mt. Zion, 12-5
The Excel Christian Academy Lady Eagles' softball team struggled through a tough second inning and lost to Mount Zion Thursday night, 12-5.
Sophomore pitcher Taylor Gibson worked all seven innings for Excel and according to coach Eric Harris, "pitched well enough to win."
Excel narrowed the difference to 9-5 in the middle innings, but Mount Zion added three more runs in the seventh.
The Lady Eagles were led at the plate by Hannah Cauthen, who went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Also contributing offensively were Tessa Thornbrough, who was 1-for-1; Whitney Harris, 1-for-2; Xena Enos, 1-for-3; Brighton McCollum, 1-for-3; Lindsey Mauldin, 1-for-4, and Gibson, 1-for-4. The loss dropped Excel’s overall record to 1-5 and 0-2 in region play.
Excel plays again on Saturday when the Lady Eagles go to Macon to play in two games.
They are scheduled to play Tattnall Square Academy at noon and Stratford Academy at 3 p.m.
