Canes cheerleaders Wood, Castillo earn top finishes


Cartersville cheerleaders Sydney Castillo and Cameryn Wood each earned Top 16 finishes Saturday, August 8 at the Georgia Cheerleader Coaches Association Cheerleader of the Year Competition at Columbus State University.


The two Canes cheerleaders were chosen to participate as two of the top 40 of 140 applicants from across the state of Georgia.


Applicants for the competition had to submit grades, GPA, community service activities, and an essay. The top 40 were selected and invited to compete for an opportunity to be on the GCCA all-state team and win a $1,000 scholarship.


For the competition the cheerleaders picked two of three competition categories. The categories were tumbling, stunting, and jumps.
