Cartersville Little League 11U team finishes third at state
Cartersville Little League’s 10/11 tournament team finished third at the Georgia Little League state tournament Thursday night following a 5-2 loss to Oconee County. The state tournament is being hosted by Athens Little League at Doyle Street Park. Cartersville tied the game 1-1 with a run in the top of the second, but Oconee pulled away with two in the fourth and single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Oconee totaled nine hits in the contest. Cartersville had eight.
Cartersville went 2-2 and had state tournament victories over Smyrna Little League (14-4) and Hart County Little League (8-7, 7 inn.). Their losses were to the two teams in the state finals, Northern Little League of Columbus (14-0) and Oconee County.
Oconee will need two wins over Northern to take the state championship. Northern needs only one victory to take the title. The first championship game is schedule for tonight (Friday, July 17) at 7pm. An ‘if needed’ game would be Saturday at noon.
The Cartersville Little League 10/11 roster includes: Jaylon Akins, Elliott Eastin, Blake Sutton, Ben Williams, Morocco Wilkie, Sam Phillips, Jake Lawson, Jake Parker, Drew Rothschild, Colin Eaton, and Phillip Schiltz.
