Bartow 9-year-old Dizzy Dean opens state tourney July 4

The Bartow County 9-year-old Dizzy Dean all-star team opens the state tournament in North Cherokee County Saturday, July 4 against Whitfield County at 9 a.m. Bartow, the Dizzy Dean District 2 runner-up, will play a second game on the tournament’s opening day win or lose.

Bartow County and Whitfield County are paired in the opening bracket with Murray County vs. Eastside. The winners of those two opening round games play at 5pm July 4. The losers will play in an elimination game at 1pm. Both games will be in Ball Ground. The double-elimination tournament continues through July 8 with games played in Ball Ground and Waleska. Other teams at the 9-year-old state tournament include: Buckhead Braves, Villa Rica, Sandy Plains Red, Powder Springs, Kennesaw, Sandy Plains Blue, Jefferson, Buckhead Bucks, Winston, New Georgia, East Cherokee, and Sandy Springs Storm.
