Local players contribute to success for pair of East Cobb Braves' teams at Invitational
The East Cobb Braves 15U with local player Kevin Warner (Cartersville HS, Kingston, GA) captured the 2015 Perfect Game East Cobb Invitational. The 68-team 15U tournament concluded Friday morning (June 12) at PG Park South at Lakepoint in Emerson.
Warner, a switch hitting infielder and RHP, contributed to East Cobb 15U’s title run by going 6-for-16 with a triple and 3RBI in the tournament.
The 15U Braves were undefeated in seven games on their way to the invitational title.
The East Cobb Braves 14U with local Cartersville players J.P. Martin and Brant Smith, finished runner-up in the 30-team 14U Perfect Game East Cobb Invitational. The tournament concluded Friday morning (June 12) at PG Park South at LakePoint in Emerson.
The 14U Braves won their first six games in the tournament to reach the finals against Georgia Jackets National. The Jackets took the title game, 6-1, to finish the tournament unbeaten at 7-0.
The 14U Braves managed only three hits in the finals against Jackets National pitcher, Tyler Jones of Ringgold. Locals Smith and Martin had a hit apiece for two of those three East Cobb hits.
Highlights: Martin finished the tournament 4-for-9 with a double and 2 RBI. Smith homered against Team Elite TPX and totaled a pair of hits for the tournament.
In the other event that concluded Friday, Home Plate Chili Dogs of Peachtree City, GA defeated Iron Pigs of Port Charlotte, FL 11-10 in the 13U East Cobb Invitational finals.
The 16U and 17U World Wood Bat Association Qualifier began today (June 12) at LakePoint. Those events run through Wednesday, June 17.
50 teams in the 17U division and 54 teams in the 16U division are playing for four spots in the WWBA National Championships in July. The top four teams for each age division not already qualified for the WWBA National Championships will receive automatic berths.
The WWBA National Championships are regularly full field events with over 300 teams in each age division. The 17U National Championship is July 3-10. The 16U event is July 10-17. Both tournaments will be played at venues all over the Atlanta Metro area, but are primarily hosted by Perfect Game Park South at LakePoint in Emerson.
