GHC wins conference playoff opener
The No. 6 seeded Chargers (24-26) rallied from behind to knock off No. 3 seed Georgia Perimeter College (31-25) in opening round play of the 2015 GCAA baseball tournament. Georgia HIghlands collected a 5-2 victory thanks to Freddie Beamon's late-game heroics.
Beamon drove in the go-ahead run to give the Chargers the lead in a five-run seventh inning. Highlands then hung on to beat Georgia Perimeter College Wednesday in the GCAA conference tournament at Darton State College in Albany.
Parker Acuff recorded the pitching win for the Chargers. He allowed two runs over six innings. Acuff struck out four, walked two, and gave up six hits.
Devin Vainer suffered the pitching loss for Georgia Perimeter College. He lasted 6 1/3 innings, walked five, struck out 10, and allowed four runs. Georgia Highlands will next face No. 2 seed, South Georgia College, Thursday (May 7) in the next round. In other action at the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association tournament, No. 5 seed West Georgia Tech topped No. 4 seed ABAC 5-1. WGT will face top-seed and host Darton State on Thursday. ABAC will play Georgia Perimeter in an elimination game, also on Thursday.
