Cartersville boys qualify for state tourney
The Cartersville High School boys basketball team advanced to the Region 7-AAAA semifinals and guaranteed themselves a berth in the GHSA Class AAAA State Tournament by defeating Pickens 62-29 Tuesday night (Feb. 10) at Southeast Whitfield. Coach Mike Tobin's Hurricanes improved to 16-9 and snapped a three game losing streak with the opening round win. The 'Canes will meet Northwest Whitfield in the semifinals Friday (Feb. 13) at 5:30pm at Southeast Whitfield. Cartersville swept the two regular season games with the Bruins. The 'Canes won 85-70 and 73-51 in the two earlier matchups. A semifinal victory over the Bruins would secure a first round state tournament home game at the Storm Center.
