Cartersville Little League’s Rookie level team of seven- and eight-year-olds is playing in the Georgia Little League Northwest Sectional tournament that begins Saturday, June 6 at Smyrna Little League. Six teams are competing for the Sectional title and are divided into two, three-team pools. Cartersville is assigned to a pool with District 2 Team 2 and Belvedere LL of Decatur. Based on schedule information provided by Georgia Little League, Cartersville 7/8 Team A is scheduled to play District 2 Team 2 at 1pm Saturday in both teams’ tournament opener. On Sunday, Cartersville will face Belvedere LL at 3pm in a second pool play matchup. The opposite pool includes Rockmart LL, District 2 Team 1, and Peachtree City LL. The top two teams from each pool advance to the Northwest Sectional semifinals Tuesday evening (June 9) and the semifinal winners will meet in a championship game Wednesday night (June 10) at 7pm. All games are at Smyrna Little League. The Cartersville roster includes: Jordan Brinkley, Maddox Frazier, Casen Cochran, Cameron Cochran, Logan Shrewsbury, Logan Woody, JeKeveon Porter. Tristan Mckibben, Thomas Peters, Sawyer Wilson, and Julian Cline. Cartersville’s manager is Robin Mckibben and the assisting coaches are Luke Bunce, Geoffe Shrewsbury, and Jay Frazier.

The Bartow County Parks and Recreation Department is offering a wide variety of sports instructional camps during the month of June. Youth interested in enhancing their skills in baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, and tennis will find opportunities through these programs. Once again this summer, Cartersville and Bartow County will help host at least 60 consecutive days of championship tournament baseball. Perfect Game Park South at LakePoint in Emerson with its eight sports turf fields is the hub for most of these events, but other local venues will also be hosting throughout the next two months. Pool play, preliminary games, and consolation games for Perfect Game tournaments are played at various fields across the Atlanta metro area, but the proximity of local venues make them attractive fields for many of these events. The Cartersville Baseball Complex in ATCO, Joe Cowan Park in Euharlee, Cass High School in White, and Woodland High School in Cartersville will host games this summer throughout the various events. The Perfect Game East Cobb Invitationals for teams in the 16U, 17U, and 18U divisions get things started tomorrow (June 4-7) followed by the 13U, 14U, and 15U age divisions June 8-12. Close to 350 teams will participate in the summer’s first big event at LakePoint’s PG South venue and surrounding Bartow County community fields. As we move through the summer, the remainder of the baseball schedule through Labor Day will include the World Wood Bat Association National Championships in late June and July, the Perfect Game World Series in July, the EvoShield Classic and Super25 Championship in late July and early August, and the WWBA Labor Day Classic during the end of summer holiday weekend. In addition to games on the larger fields, Hamilton Crossing Park in Cassville will be hosting the 10U, 11U, and 12U Perfect Game BCS Championships July 10-21. After studying the youth camp landscape for the past decade, and now serving as the Head Coach of Nike Elite 11, former Super Bowl-winning quarterback and current ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer has decided to change the way future quarterbacks are developed by establishing the first QBEpic. At the world-­class LakePoint Sporting Community facilities in Emerson, Georgia, quarterbacks will receive best-in-class training on and off the field from the finest group of quarterback coaches ever assembled. Rally Volleyball at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson begins a second, 8-week session for 2015 of Co-Ed 4's league action beginning June 18. Each team must have one woman on the sand to play. Each week consists of league doubleheaders where each team plays two matches. Each match is a best-of-three games (sets) to 21 utilizing rally scoring. There is a maximum of six players per roster with league play every Thursday night at the Rally Volleyball sand venue at LakePoint. Play begins at 7:00pm with doubleheaders held June 18, June 25, July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6, and August 13. Reinhardt University junior and former Woodland High School softball player, Randi Wimpy, has repeated as an NAIA softball first team all-American. She is the first Reinhardt player to ever repeat as an all-American and she was also named Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. The 5-8 catcher also earned JUCO all-American honors her freshman season while playing at Walters State in Morristown, TN, making her a three-time softball all-American. For the second week in a row, a Scott Hamilton Golf Academy PGA star won in Texas. Steven Bowditch won his second PGA Tour event at the AT&T Byron Nelson. The third annual FCA Golf Classic will be in full swing Monday (June 1) at the Cartersville Country Club at 1310 Joe Frank Harris Parkway to raise money for the Bartow/Polk Fellowship of Christian Athletes to send student athletes and coaches in Bartow County to FCA camps. Registration and lunch will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon. Former Cartersville High School softball standout Kailah Rain recently received all-conference, and all-region distinction following her freshman season at Embry-Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Florida. As an outfielder starting in all 46 games, Rain hit .328 and led the team in hits. The Eagles were 25-21 in 2015, 8-8 competing in the NAIA's Sun Conference. Former Woodland High School softball star, Ainsley Faulk, and her Auburn University at Montgomery softball teammates successfully defended their NAIA Softball World Series title Thursday night (May 28). The 35th annual NAIA national championship tournament was conducted at the Jensen Softball Complex in Sioux City, Iowa. Faulk, a 5-foot senior outfielder, was utilized in the title game as a pinch runner for catcher Lauren Shaw in the top of the fourth inning. AUM swept through the winners bracket to make the finals, but lost to Lindsey Wilson (KY) Thursday (May 28) forcing an 'if necessary' game for the national title. The Warhawks (46-9) blanked Lindsey Wilson in the nightcap, 10-0 in six innings, to take the NAIA crown for a second consecutive year. Faulk is the daughter of Havon and Kim Faulk of Taylorsville.
