  • Cartersville Purple wins District 1 Little League championship

    Cartersville Little League 10U Purple rolled up 17 runs in a two inning span Thursday night (July 2) on their way to a 20-6 win and the Georgia Little League District 1 title. Nine Cartersville Purple players combined for 14 hits and five walks in the victory. Cartersville Purple took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and pushed it to 12-0 in the third. After Cartersville Gold put up three runs in the bottom of the third, Purple responded with eight more. Gold rallied for three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but that was as close as they would come. The game ended via run-rule. Drake Carver led the Purple offense. He was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk and 3 runs scored. Carver had a double and a triple among his hits. Paul Gamble was 2-for-2 for Cartersville Purple with a pair of RBI and four runs scored. Hunter Kelly and Avery Higgins also had a pair of hits and two RBI apiece. JaKiyon Porter, Isaac McNair-Seigler (RBI), Trip Bradley, A.J. Christina, and NIck Kennedy added the other Cartersville Purple hits. Gamble (3.1 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 5 K) earned the pitching victory for Cartersville Purple. McNair-Seigler (0.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 BB) recorded the final two outs of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Joshua Clay had a double and a triple with 2 RBI in a 2-for-3 performance for Cartersville Gold. Gabe Cox also went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kaden Stephenson , Silas Freeman , and Jordan Hall had the remaining Cartersville Gold hits. The two Cartersville teams finished first and second during pool play of the district tournament qualifying the two to square off in a best-of-three series for the title. Cartersville Purple won the series, 2-0. Cartersville Purple 10U, now District 1 Little League champions, advance to the Georgia Little League 9/10 state tournament that begins July 11 at Midway Little League in Decatur.

  • Cartersville Little League 10U Purple takes game one of district series

    Drake Carver and Trip Bradley combined on a pitching performance that limited Cartersville Gold to only a single run on three hits as Cartersville 10U Purple won 11-1 in the first game of the Georgia 10U Little League District 1 best-of-three championship series. Carver tossed the first four innings and struck out four. Bradley pitched a scoreless final inning and with a pair of strikeouts. Cartersville Purple scored at least one run in all five innings, but a three-run second and a five-run third took control of the game. Purple 10U took advantage of 11 walks in the victory. Bradley and Carver also led Cartersville Purple at the plate with two hits each. JaKiyon Porter (double), Isaac McNair-Seigler, A.J. Christina, and Will Litton (triple) had the other Cartersville Purple base hits. Cartersville 10U Gold used three pitchers in Game 1 of the series. Brody Tidwell (2.1 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K), Jack Chatman (4 ER, 5 BB), and Joshua Clay (2 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K) shared the mound duties for Cartersville Gold. Kaden Stephenson, Tidwell, and Clay had the three Cartersville Gold hits. The two teams meet again Wednesday night (July 1) at 7pm at Rudy York Field in Atco for Game 2 in the best-of-three championship series. The District 1 champion will advance to the Georgia Little League 9/10 state tournament that begins July 11 at Midway Little League in Decatur.

  • Cartersville LL 10U teams wrap up pool play, now face off for district crown

    Cartersville Purple 10U used a 10-hit attack and two big innings to finish pool play at the District 1 Little League tournament with a 14-4 four-inning win over league-mates, Cartersville Gold 10U. The game wrapped up pool play for both teams. Since they finished first and second in the preliminary round, they now square off in a best-of-three series to determine the District 1 Little League championship. Both teams utilized a trio of pitchers to complete the contest. Brice Craig (2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K), Will Litton (1.1 IP, 2 ER, 6 BB, 1 K), and Drake Carver (0.2 IP, 0 R, 1 BB, 1K) combined efforts on the mound for Cartersville Purple in the victory. Jordan Hall (2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K), Collin Genrich (1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 K), and Joshua Clay (0.1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K) completed the pitching duties for Cartersville Gold. Issac McNair-Seigler, Avery Higgins, and Nicholas Kennedy had two hits each for Cartersville Purple. Craig (triple), Trip Bradley (double), Thomas Norris, and Paul Gamble (double) had the other Purple hits. Clay and Hall had the only two Cartersville Gold hits. Cartersville Purple and Cartersville Gold begin the best-of-three district championship series Tuesday night (June 30) at Rudy York Field at 7pm.

  • Long ball lifts Cartersville to 12U district Little League title

    Cartersville’s offense exploded for a 5-run fourth inning to take control of a close game in their 9-4 win over Rockmart Monday night at Rudy York Field in Atco. The Game 3 victory in the best-of-five series secured the Georgia District 1 Little League crown and advanced Cartersville to the state tournament hosted by Athens Little League July 25 - August 1. Cartersville won the series three games to none. Trailing Rockmart 4-2 going to the bottom of the fourth, Cartersville struck for back-to-back homeruns by Charlie Heidmann and Nick Bailey to tie the score at 4-4. Alex Freeman kept the inning alive with two outs when he reached on a dropped third strike and Ethan Wolfe walked. Both runners scored when Christian Martin’s grounder to shortstop was booted. Martin also later scored on an error by the Rockmart second baseman to give Cartersville a 7-4 advantage. A second Bailey homerun of the game in the bottom of the fifth scored Heidmann who had doubled with two outs in the frame. It was Bailey’s third homer of the series. Cartersville pitchers Micah Earwood and Heidmann limited Rockmart to four runs on three hits although they yielded five walks each. Heidmann struck out four. Earwood recorded one strikeout. Cartersville scored twice in the second inning on a two-run double by Freeman. Matthew Surrett singled and Jackson Cline walked to set up the RBIs. Rockmart scored their four runs in the third to take a 4-2 lead. Cartersville will open the state tournament in Athens on Saturday, July 25 against the District 7 champion.

  • Three top 15s for Scott Hamilton Golf Academy players on PGA Tour

    Bubba Watson held off Paul Casey in a playoff to win the June 25-28 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands Golf Club in Cromwell, CT. Meanwhile, several players affilliated with Cartersville Country Club's Scott Hamilton Golf Academy made the cut and finished well up the leaderboard. Here are the results for those players: T15 -- Steven Bowditch (-9) T15 -- Kyle Thompson (-9) T15 -- Brendon Todd (-9) T25 -- Harris English (-7) T48 -- Jim Renner (-5) T68 -- Tom Gillis (Even) Boo Weekley, Chris Kirk, Russell Henley, Jamie Elson, Joe Durant, Will Claxton were not entered.   • Cartersville Little League 12U only one win away from District 1 title

    Cartersville Little League 12U scored 7 runs in the fourth and fifth innings Sunday (June 28) to pull off a 9-8, come-from-behind win over Rockmart in Game 2 of their District 1 championship series. The victory put Cartersville up 2-0 in the best-of-five series being played at Rudy York Field in Atco. Trailing by two in the fifth, Cartersville’s Nick Bailey hit a 3-run blast that drove home Trevor Montgomery and Matthew Surrett. The homerun turned out to be a game winner. Bailey also had a double in the game and finished with 5 RBI. Christian Martin and Tyler Putz (RBI) had doubles for Cartersville. Surrett (RBI) had the locals’ only other hit. Cartersville scored twice in the top of the first, but Rockmart tied the game with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Rockmart then added four runs in the second and two more in the third to take an 8-2 lead prior to Cartersville’s fourth and fifth inning comeback. In the fourth, Surrett singled to open the inning. Montgomery walked and they both advanced on a groundout by Charlie Heidmann. Bailey then doubled to drive in two runs and later scored when Jackson Cline reached on an error. Alex Freeman was hit by a pitch to keep the inning going and Cline scored when Ethan Wolfe reached on a fielder’s choice. Cartersville used a trio of pitchers in Game 2. Montgomery (1.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB), Martin (0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 K), and Bailey (3.2 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 K) took care of the pitching duties. Cartersville is now just one win away from claiming the District 1 Little League title. They play Rockmart in Game 3 of the championship series Monday night at 7pm on Rudy York Field. If needed, Game 4 will be Tuesday and Game 5 Wednesday — both at Rudy York Field at 8:30pm.

  • Cartersville 10U teams remain undefeated at district tourney

    Cartersville Little League 10U Purple needed only four innings Sunday (June 28) to dispatch Rockmart, 16-0 and Cartersville Little League 10U Gold won a back-and-forth struggle with Rome, 16-15. The wins by the two Cartersville teams mean they will play for the district title after pool play is complete. Cartersville Little League is hosting the District 1 Little League tournament at Joe Frank Harris Field and Rudy York Field in Atco. Cartersville Purple collected a dozen hits and got shutout pitching from Paul Gamble (3IP, 1H, 1BB, 5K) and Hunter Kelly (1IP, 1H) for the mercy, run-rule win. With the victory, Cartersville Purple moves to 2-0 in pool play. Rockmart fell to 0-2. Drake Carver was 2-for-3 with a walk, a 3-run homer, 4 RBI, and 3 runs scored to lead the Purple offense. His homerun came in the top of the fourth inning. Trip Bradley (2 RBI, 2R), Avery Higgins (2 RBI, 2R, double), and Isaac McNair-Seigler (2 RBI, 1R) also had two hits each. JaKiyon Porter, Thomas Norris, Will Litton, and Nicholas Kennedy had the other Cartersville Purple hits in their 12-hit attack. Cartersville Purple also took advantage of seven walks and three Rockmart errors. Cartersville Little League 10U Gold won a high scoring affair with Rome Sunday to also remain unbeaten in pool play. Cartersville Gold scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to rally for a come-from-behind 16-15 win. The game winning run came on a bases loaded walk to Collin Genrich. The two teams combined for 17 hits and traded the lead 12 times in the six inning game. Rome used six different pitchers in the contest and failed to record an out in the bottom of the sixth when Cartersville Gold rallied for the win. Cartersville Gold pitchers included Jack Chatman (3 BB, 0 ER), Knox Neal (2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K), Carson Horn (3 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K), and Kaden Stephenson (1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K). Joshua Clay (3 RBI, 2 R, SB), Jordan Hall (1 R), and Chatman (1 R) had two hits each for Cartersville Gold. Brody Tidwell (RBI, 3 R), Cole Jackson (RBI, 1 R), Gabriel Cox, and Neal (2 RBI, 3 R, 3 SB) had one hit apiece. Silas Freeman walked twice, scored a pair of runs, and stole 3 bases. Next for Cartersville Purple (2-0) and Cartersville Gold (2-0) is a matchup with one another at 8:30pm on Joe Frank Harris Field. It will be both teams’ final pool play contest before they square off again in the District 1, best-of-three championship series that begins Tuesday night.

  • Cartersville LL 12U wins Game 1 in best-of-five district championship series

    Cartersville Little League 12U rallied from four runs behind to edge Rockmart 6-4 in Game 1 of the Georgia Little League District 1 championship series at Rudy York Field in Atco. With only two teams in the 12U division of District 1, Cartersville and Rockmart are facing off in a best-of-five series scheduled with one game each day through Wednesday (July 1) if five games are needed. Rockmart scored four times in the top of the first to take an early lead in the series opener, but Cartersville’s pitching shut out the Polk County club over the next five frames to make way for the comeback. Jackson Norris (4.1IP, 6H, 3ER, 3BB, 7K) started on the mound for Cartersville and yielded those early runs, but settled things down over the next several innings to give his offense time and a chance. Christian Martin (1.2IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 1K) picked up the pitching victory for Cartersville in relief. Tyler Pate scored on Norris’ sacrifice fly in the first for Cartersville to narrow the deficit to 4-1. In the third, Cartersville tied the game with a three-run rally. Nick Bailey started the inning with a double to left field, before Norris and Matthew Surrett hit back-to-back, two-out homeruns. Cartersville scored the decisive runs in the bottom of the fifth. Tyler Putz reached to start the fifth when he was hit by a pitch. Norris then doubled to right field moving Putz to third. Trevor Montgomery followed with a 2-RBI single to put the locals up 6-4. Norris and Charlie Heidmann had a pair of hits each for Cartersville. Surrett, Montgomery, Bailey, and Alex Freeman had the other Cartersville hits. Game 2 of the best-of-five series is Sunday (June 28) at 3pm. Game 3 will be Monday night at 7pm. If needed, Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday at 8:30pm and Game 5 would be Wednesday at 8:30pm. All games in the 12U District 1 championship series are scheduled for Rudy York Field.

  • Cartersville Little League 10U teams win district tourney openers

    Both Cartersville Little League 10U all star team won their Georgia Little League District 1 openers Saturday (June 27) at Joe Frank Harris Field in Atco. The Cartersville Purple 10U all stars beat Rome 13-3 in five innings, while Cartersville Gold 10U edged Rockmart, 5-4. Cartersville Little League is hosting the Georgia Little League District 1 tournament through Thursday, July 2 at Joe Frank Harris and Rudy York Fields. Cartersville Purple scored five runs in the fifth to put their game away on RBI singles by Isaac McNair-Seigler, Will Litton, and Brice Craig; a walk by JaKiyon Porter; and a single by Paul Gamble. Trip Bradley was 4-for-4 for Cartersville Purple. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the first, fourth, and fifth innings. McNair-Seigler was masterful on the mound in 3 and 2/3 innings of work for Purple 10U. Rome managed just one hit and no earned runs during his stint on the mound. He allowed two walks and struck out seven. Thomas Norris (1H, 2ER, 3BB) pitched an inning for Purple and Will Litton (1H, 1ER, 3BB, 1K) pitched 1/3 of an inning. Bradley singled to score Porter, Gamble scored on a groundout by Hunter Kelly, and Bradley crossed the plate on a single by A.J. Christina as Cartersville Purple jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Rome tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the second, but Cartersville Purple answered with ten runs over the next three frames to put the game away. Cartersville Purple out-hit Rome 15-3 in both teams' tournament opener. In the second 10U District 1 game Saturday, Cartersville Gold came-from-behind to knock off Rockmart, 5-4. Cartersville Gold tied the game in the fourth inning on a two-run triple by Kaden Stephenson then held off Rockmart down the stretch before Stephenson delivered a game winning hit. Stephenson finished the day with three RBI on a pair of hits. Rockmart 10U jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first and added a run in the third to take a 4-0 advantage. Cartersville Gold responded with a four run fourth to tie. Brody Tidwell had a sacrifice fly, Chandler Mathison drove in a run with a single, and Stephenson hit his 2-RBI triple completed the fourth inning rally. Silas Freeman led off the inning with a single. In the bottom of the sixth, Jack Chatman singled to left field and Collin Genrich walked with one out before Stephenson's infield single to deep short scored Chatman with the game winner. Knox Neal (2H, 3ER, 2BB), Freeman (3.2IP, 3H, 0ER, 1BB, 8K), and Tidwell (2.1IP, 1H, 1BB, 3K) saw time on the mound for Cartersville Gold. Pool play in the District 1 10U tournament continues Sunday when Cartersville Purple plays Rockmart at 2pm and Cartersville Gold takes on Rome at 4pm. Both 10U games will be played at Joe Frank Harris Field. Pool play wraps up Monday night (June 29) as Rockmart and Rome square off at 6pm, followed by a game between the two Cartersville teams at 8:30pm. The pool play winner and the pool runner-up will play a 3-game series beginning Tuesday (June 30) to determine the District 1 championship. Game 2 of the championship series will be Wednesday night. If a third game is needed, it will be Thursday night. All three games of the 10U District 1 championship series are scheduled for Rudy York Field at 6pm.   • Bartow 10 and under wins 'live arm' GRPA district title

    The Bartow County 10 and under live arm all stars softball team only needed two innings to dispatch Rome in the championship game of the GRPA District 5 tournament winning 20-0. Bartow scored 20 runs with a 15 hit attack in the title game. MaKayla Wade was 4-for-4, Michiah Hicks was 3-for-3, Haley Stiles 2-for-2, and Olivia Talarico went 2-for-3 in the contest for Bartow. Lainey Baker pitched two scoreless innings for the victory in the circle. Baker struck out four and walked a pair. Bartow County advances to play in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Tournament July 8-10 at Hamilton Crossing Park. Bartow will open the state tournament against Thomaston-Upson County at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, July 8th.

  • Bartow 12U softball earns GRPA state tourney berth

    The Bartow County 12 and under softball all stars finished as GRPA District 5 runner-up Tuesday night (June 23), falling in the championship game to host Murray County, 8-0. Bartow earned a spot in the finals with a 13-0 victory over Whitfield County the previous night. Bartow also had a prior win over Whitfield in the early rounds of the double-elimination event and an opening round victory over Rockmart. The runner-up district finish clinched a berth in the state tournament July 8-11 in Dublin at the Southern Pines Athletic Complex. Members of the Bartow County 12 and under team include: Hailie Owens, Madison Bentley, Rylee Hensley, Maggie Pruitt, Jaden Mussachio, Kyla Jenkins, Harper Powell, Elle Smith, Gracie Styles, Kailey Baker, Catherine Wheeler, and Macey Vaughn, The team is coached by Randy Jenkins, Chris Owens, Brady Baker, and Daniel Vaughn.

  • Bartow 8U softball advances to final four at Dizzy Dean state tourney

    The 8 and under Bartow softball all-stars won three times in elimination games Saturday (June 27) to make the final four teams at the 8U Dizzy Dean softball state tournament in Carroll County. Bartow defeated host Carroll County 12-3, North Hall 12-4, and Jackson County 18-7. Bartow will face the winner of Gordon County/North Hall at 1:30pm Sunday as the double-elimination (with three game guarantee) tournament continues. Bremen and Summerville remain the only unbeaten teams heading into Sunday play. Those two teams play Sunday (June 28) at 10:30am and the winner locks down a spot in the championship. Bartow bounced back from a 16-15 opening round loss Friday night to Gordon County that relegated them to the losers' bracket and all elimination games for the remainder of their tournament. Leading hitters for Bartow against North Hall were Naxyria Roberts 3-for-4, Alana Carnes 3-for-4, Marly Pruitt 2-for-4, Kate Self 2-for-4, Elizabeth Hartsfield 2-for-4, and Haley Powell 2-for-4. Leading hitters for Bartow against Jackson County were Haley Collum, Elizabeth Hartsfield and Kamryn Smith 3-for-5, Marley Pruitt, Kaitlyn Arnold, Alana Carnes, Jordan Hammonds, and Harley Powell 2-for-5 each. Leading hitters in the 3rd game of the day against Carroll County were Naxyria Roberts, Haley Collum, and Marly Pruitt 3-for-5 each. Lanye Callan was 3-for-4 and Erin McCrary went 2-for-4.
