- Lady Tigers defeat Gilmer
April 2, 2025 The Adairsville tennis teams split home region matches with Gilmer on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers won 4-1, but the Adairsville boys lost 3-2 to the Bobcats. The Adairsville girls finished fourth in the region, and the Tigers finished fifth. April 1, 2025 Both Woodland soccer teams and the Adairsville Lady Tigers achieved shutouts Tuesday night. WOODLAND GIRLS 10, GORDON CENTRAL 0 The Lady Cats scored seven goals in the first half and finished off a road win at Gordon Central in the 68th minute Tuesday evening in Calhoun. Ansley Burns achieved a hat trick and contributed an assist for Woodland. Additionally, seven other Lady Cats scored a goal: Maddie Weightman, Libby Morgan, Jackie Arias, Sammie Espinoza, Carlie Forman, Bri Carver, and Karyme Hernandez. Morgan added three assists, and Espinoza had two assists. Weightman and Carver added one assist. The loss dropped Gordon Central to a 3-8 record. The Lady Cats (5-8) play at Adairsville on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. WOODLAND BOYS 3, GORDON CENTRAL 0 Aiden Carrillo The Wildcats broke the ice in the 32nd minute of the first half Tuesday night for a 1-0 halftime lead and added to their advantage in the second half for a 3-0 victory at Gordon Central. Juan Mendoza scored the first goal for Woodland off an assist from Marvin Morales. Deiby Sanchez gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead early in the second half with an unassisted goal in the 47th minute. Aiden Carrillo added a third goal with just under nine minutes remaining. Woodland (4-10) plays at Adairsville on Thursday. ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 10, PEPPERELL 0 On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers cruised to an easy 10-0 home win over Pepperell. Adairsville led 6-0 at the intermission and wrapped up the victory in the 55th minute. Alexa Damer had three goals and one assist. Ella Edwards scored two goals and had one assist. Sam Gough contributed two goals and two assists. Carly Edwards produced one goal and two assists. Zonya Gomez-Prerez and Alivia Joslin scored one goal. Braylynn Martin added one assist. The Lady Tigers (10-3) host Woodland on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 2, PEPPERELL 0 The Tigers defeated visiting Pepperell 2-0 in a non-region match and improved to 6-7 on the season. The loss dropped the Dragons to 2-10. Adairsville hosts Woodland on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
- Hurricanes and Wildcats win series openers; Colonels blanked at region-leading Allatoona
April 1, 2025 Cole Crawford hit a two-run homer in Cartersville's 5-1 win over Cedartown on Tuesday at Richard Bell Field. Cartersville scored four runs early, and pitchers Andrew Purdy and Maddox Frazier limited visiting Cedartown to just one run on four hits Tuesday night at Richard Bell Field as the Canes defeated the Bulldogs 5-1. Purdy gave up one unearned run on four hits and two walks in the first five innings. He struck out five. Frazier threw two scoreless innings and fanned one. Cole Crawford had two hits, including a two-run homer in the second inning that gave the Purple Hurricanes a 4-0 lead. Thomas Peters (double), Julez Pratt (RBI), Brayden Logan (RBI), and Tristan McKibben (RBI) added one hit. The Canes also drew seven walks in the victory. Cedartown (11-11, 8-5) will host a doubleheader with Cartersville (15-7, 11-2) on Friday at 5 p.m. to complete their three-game series. WOODLAND 14, HIRAM 4 On Tuesday, Lucas Baker had four RBI in the Wildcats' 14-4 win at Hiram. The Wildcats scored all fourteen runs in the first three innings Tuesday in a five-inning 14-4 victory at Hiram. The Hornets led 2-1 after one inning, but Woodland scored six runs in the second inning and added seven in the third to take control. Jake Clowers picked up the pitching win for the Wildcats with a four-inning start. He allowed four runs (all unearned) on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Austin Daves struck out the side in the fifth inning to close out the game. Lucas Baker drove in four runs on two hits for Woodland, including one double. Clowers also had two hits with one RBI. Alfredo Romo (three RBI), Zaylen Cochran (two RBI), Ben Turcotte (RBI), Grant Tidwell, and Preston Sorrells added one hit. Hiram (7-15, 2-11) visits Woodland (11-10, 5-8) on Friday to complete the three-game Region 7-AAAA series with a doubleheader slated for 5 p.m. ALLATOONA 7, CASS 0 Chase Tatum Left-hand pitcher and Georgia Tech commit Cooper Underwood struck out fourteen and allowed just one hit while sixth-ranked Allatoona blanked visiting Cass Tuesday night, 7-0. Chase Tatum had the only hit for the Colonels — an infield single in the fifth inning. Hunter Lovett (2 IP, 4R, 3ER, 4H, 2BB, 3K) made the pitching start for Cass and was saddled with the loss. Dustin Wallin (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 4BB, 2K), Nic Wright (1 IP, 0R, 2BB, 1K), Jay Sheldon (1 IP, 2ER, 4H, 1BB), and Landon Lamb (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1K) pitched one inning of relief each. Allatoona (19-3, 12-1) plays a doubleheader at Cass (10-11, 5-8) on Friday at 5 p.m. to complete the Region 7-AAAA series.
- Chargers lose series opener with South Georgia State
April 1, 2025 Georgia Highlands baseball lost the first game of a four-game series with South Georgia State on Tuesday, 9-6, at Bentley Field on the Cartersville campus. The visiting Hawks scored four runs in the first two innings and led 7-1 through five. The Chargers narrowed the margin to 7-3 in the sixth, but South Georgia State added two insurance runs in the top of the eighth for a 9-3 advantage. Andrew Bishop hit a three-run homer for GHC in the bottom of the eighth, but that would end the scoring. The Chargers utilized nine pitchers in the loss, including starter Nickolaus Kane (3 IP, 4ER, 6H, 2BB, 1K), Brodie Chestnutt (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB), Garrett Goblish (1 IP, 3ER, 1H, 4BB, 1K), William Homan (0.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB), Ethan Fuller (0.1 IP, 1K), Braxton Wade (1 IP, 2ER, 2H), Jackson Greer (1 IP, 0R, 1H), Reece Robertson (0.0 IP, 1H), and Hunter Ward (1 IP, 0R, 0H). South Georgia (19-18, 5-6) out-hit Georgia Highlands eleven to three. In addition to Bishop’s late homer, Ryan Martin hit a solo home run in the first inning, and Ian Fullerton doubled in the eighth. Georgia Highlands (29-7, 8-4) will play the remainder of the series in Douglas with a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.
- Cass soccer teams fall at Carrollton
April 1, 2025 The Cass High School soccer teams dropped non-region decisions on Monday night at Carrollton. The Lady Colonels lost 5-3, and the Colonels fell 4-1. The Cass girls trailed 2-1 at the intermission and were outscored 3-2 in the second half. With their victory, the Lady Trojans improved to 5-6-1, while the Lady Colonels dropped to 1-11. The Carrollton boys improved their season mark to 12-1. The Colonels slipped to 6-7. The Cass girls host a non-region match with Campbell on Saturday at 7 p.m. Both Cass teams play final non-region regular season matches at Pebblebrook on April 17.

He allowed one earned run on two hits and six walks while striking out three. The Aviators won two of three games in their season-opening series with Reno. Las Vegas hosts a six-game series with the Sacramento River Cats on Tuesday through Sunday. LOGAN MARTIN — Columbia Fireflies (Kansas City Royals Single-A affiliate; 3rd-year pro; age 23; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … Martin returns to the Fireflies pitching staff to begin the 2025 season. The Carolina League schedule starts Friday with a three-game series for the Fireflies at the Augusta Greenjackets. ANTHONY SEIGLER — Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers Triple-A affiliate; 8th-year pro; age 25; Cartersville HS) … made a start at catcher this past Saturday in an 11-3 home loss to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and a start at second base on Sunday in a 2-1 loss. The Flying Tigers (31-14) are in fourth place in the 20-team league. Their final regular season game is Monday night when they host the Beijing Royal Fighters. BASEBALL Drew Billings DREW BILLINGS — Trinity Baptist College (Jr., Woodland HS) … made two relief appearances this past Saturday in a home doubleheader sweep of Toccoa Falls College. Billings totaled six innings on the mound and was credited with a save in a 7-4 win. He did not allow a run on two hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in the two outings. The Eagles (16-12, 7-2 NCCAA) host Paine College (GA) for three games on Friday and Saturday. March 29, 2025 The Georgia Highlands College softball team extended its winning streak to five games on Saturday with two GCAA conference wins at East Georgia State. The Chargers won the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader 10-2 and captured the second game 12-5. Hayden Joyner went the distance in the circle to collect the pitching victory in the opener. She went all seven innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while recording seven strikeouts. The Cartersville Lady Canes upended visiting Woodland 2-1 Friday night at Weinman Stadium to earn the No. 4 seed from Region 7-AAAA in the upcoming GHSA state playoffs. Scout Hullander (17) scored the Lady Canes' go-ahead goal in the second half. Following a scoreless first half, the visiting Lady Cats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the second half. Sammie Espinoza scored the goal for Woodland off an assist from Liby Morgan. Cartersville responded less than four minutes later with an equalizer by Mallory Nicklas off a corner. March 27, 2025 The Adairsville girls' soccer team stepped outside of Region 7-AAA play on Thursday night to challenge the Class 4A Lady Buccaneers of Allatoona. The Lady Tigers lost 9-1 but head coach David Sexauer was pleased with how his team responded. “I was impressed with the team’s composure. They proved that the stage wasn’t too big and they were able to rise to the level of an intimidating team.” Allatoona, the 2024 Class 4A state runner-up, led 5-0 at halftime. The lone Adairsville goal was scored by Alivia Joslin in the 52nd minute off an assist from Sam Gough. “The challenge was good for us,” added Sexauer. “We need to face competition like this to help make us better and prepare us for the playoffs.” Allatoona improved to 12-1 overall. The Lady Bucs were 7-0 in Region 7-AAAA. Adairsville (9-3) will host Pepperell in another tune-up for the playoffs on Tuesday. KELL 9, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 0 The host Longhorns improved to 3-8 on the season with a 9-0 home win over Adairsville on Thursday night in Marietta.
